Have I ganked you?

Photography

Post-processing: …and the spider

This is the companion photo to yesterday’s post, The flower and the web. Don’t tell anyone, but I didn’t even know I had taken this pic of the spider until I got home. We’ll just let the world think I actually saw the spider. : )

In terms of post-processing, I had to do a lot of cropping on this photo, pretty much cutting the photo in half. If I had actually seen the spider, I could have gotten a much better photo. I could have focused on the spider and zoomed on him (her?). Instead, the subject was the entire flower, which I cropped away about half of to make the final image more about the spider.

If you’re ever wondering why you need so many pixels in your camera, why 30 mp is better than 16 (I have 16. *pout.), there’s your reason. The moment you crop, you’re cutting out pixels and resolution. Since you’re not always going to know the spider is there until you get it to post-processing, it’s nice to have as many pixels as you can get and afford.
