Transitions: Across the footbridge
Not every photo is going to be a gem or turn out the way your mind envisioned it.
This is a photo I took shortly after I got my Olympus OMD III. There are things about I like and things I don’t like. It fits in well with this week’s theme, though. I thought a while about posting it, because I don’t think it’s a good photo. Finally, I decided it’s best for the purposes of this blog to occasionally post photos I’m not happy with. Examining work that I’m disappointed can be instructive.
There are several things I like. It’s a transition shot: the woman moving across the bridge with her dog is a good subject. The bridge is wonderful, with all it’s lines and the way it flows to a vanishing point. So I think I had the elements of a good shot.
But while there are things to like, technically, the photo just isn’t working. The sky is washed out. I think I should have used a lens closer to an 85mm, something more intimate. I also had to crop the photo to get the image I really wanted, so the quality isn’t that good. And maybe I should have gotten lower to the ground–the shot probably would have been better from a lower angle.
It’s a lesson to be learned. I try to look at these photos, learn something, and try to do better, next time.
I’ll probably revisit that bridge, though. I love those lines. : )
