Transitions: Prince Street Alley

When I shot this photo, I could have shot through the bars. I could have stuck my camera through the bars and just shot the alleyway leading to a private area. But I didn’t. I wanted the bars. The bars clearly say you can’t go there. It’s private property, so that’s understandable, but this is predominant feature of the landscape of Old Town Alexandria, VA. These alleys with their bars are everywhere. They clearly say: “You can go there. You’re not welcome.”

There’s lots of nice area in Old Town Alexandria, but the homes are very unfriendly. I think you get a taste of that in this photo.
