GW2: How to make 1000 gold – What’s the right salvage kit?
Guild Wars 2 gives you several salvage kit options.
It might seem a bit confusing, but it’s not. All you need is the Crude Salvage Kit.
This is more true, now, than it used to be, but even in the past all you really needed was the Crude Salvage Kit. It used to be the case, that all you ever wanted was the T6 mats, such as gossamer and orichalcum, but the additional cost of the better kits never justified the extra chance of getting finer materials. Today, you actually need almost all the materials you might salvage – e.g. wool, mithril, coarse leather – so there’s even less reason to buy the more expensive kits.
Now, having said that, I’ll admit I use the Basic Salvage Kit, instead of the crude one. Why? Because it saves on bag space. I get more uses from the basic one. But you should use the Crude Salvage Kit if you’re trying to build up your gold. On a cost-per-use basis, the Crude Salvage Kit will save you money.
I also use the Master’s Salvage Kit and the Black Lion Salvage Kit. I use the Master’s to salvage rares of level 68 and higher so I have a better chance to get Globs of Ectoplasm, and I use the BL Salvage Kits to salvage exotics so I’m sure to get a rune or sigil I might need.
So just to recap. The Crude Salvage Kit should be used for everything with two exceptions: Rares, level 68 and higher, and exotics with desirable runes or sigils. Use the Master’s Salvage kit for the rares and the BL Kit for the exotics.
