GW2: How to make 1000 gold – What to craft
So what should you sell? Is anything you craft at lower level even worth selling?
When you’re first starting out, it might seem like you have nothing to sell. If you crafted in other MMOs, you might expect anything you craft at the lower levels to be pretty much worthless. That’s not true in Guild Wars 2.
In fact, almost everything you craft in GW2 can be resold at a profit. Not always, but it’s usually the case.
For instance, the very first thing you can make as a tailor are jute insignias. These are pretty simple to make. You only need bolts of jute – refined from jutes scraps – and 3 fine crafting materials, such as Bone Chips or Tiny Venom Sacks.
For the sake of this example, let’s ignore the fact that these mats drop from beginning mobs like loot from a spanked skritt burglar. Let’s just say you have to buy everything off the trading post and you want to make a Vital Jute Insignia.
It takes one Bolt of Jute and 3 Bone Chips. Jute is pretty cheap at 17 copper*. Buy 2 for 34 copper (FYI, sometimes bolts are cheaper so check the prices. If you don’t have to make the bolts, save yourself some time.) and buy your Bone Chips. They’re 30 copper, so 3 of them for 90 copper. (This also assumes you’re not doing what I’ve told you to do in the past: Practicing a little patience and making an offer. Don’t pay retail – the asking price – if you don’t have to.) So you could buy everything you need and make a Vital Jute Insignia for a total of 1 silver 24 copper.
To make a profit you would need to sell your Vital Jute Insignia for a little more than 1 silver 46 copper (Break Even = Costs * 1.18. The trading post gets it 15% of what you sell.). You can sell it for that and more: Vital Jute Insignia were selling for 1.91 at the time of this post. If you post your insignia and sell it for the lowest selling price of 1 silver 91 copper, you’ve made 45 copper. That’s a 30% return on your retail invest. That’s pretty sweet.
Of course, you’re going to make an offer and you’re probably going to have some of these mats from mobs, so you’re going to make even more of a profit. Awesome, isn’t it?
These profits are to be found on just about everything in GW2. You don’t have to look very hard, and the great thing is you can make some money selling the stuff you make leveling.
