Blizzard fails: Battle.net accounts hacked.
Blizzard announced yesterday that Battle.net accounts had been compromised.
Sometimes I’m wrong and sometimes I’m right. This one goes firmly in the I-told-you-so-neener-neener column.
Money ruins everything. By introducing real life money into Diablo 3‘s auction house, Blizzard was essentially goading every hacker in the world to come and give them their best shot. It’s turning out the best shot of millions of financially motivated hackers is a bit better than what Blizzard was expecting. They should’ve seen it coming; you didn’t need a crystal ball to know what was going to happen.
So here’s my next prediction: Blizzard will close down the real-money auction house.
The RMAH just isn’t worth it if it. The possibility of making a few dollars invites more hacking and will continue to until Blizzard closes it down. Really, if they want to make some extra cash from Diablo 3, why not just open an item shop?
