Guild Wars 2: When’s the release??

The rumor, a very suspect rumor, is Guild Wars 2 is due for release on June 28. ArenaNet is mum and still hasn’t announced an official release date. Nothing has changed since their blog announcement in January saying GW2 would release this year, 2012, the Year of the Dragon. Anything else is wishful thinking.

However, the beta play has been very solid, so it’s reasonable to presume the release date announcement is very close.

Sadly, reasonably speaking, June 28 is too close. Gaming companies like to give everyone time to get excited – well, more excited – about a game. June 28th isn’t enough time to stoke the flames, so a just-guessing estimate would be more like mid to late July. That would give ArenaNet and NCSoft some time to get the marketing engines going, ensuring more unit sales as anticipation builds for the official release. Sorry to say, but three weeks to a month, at least, is needed for a strong marketing push before the official release.

In a way, that’s okay. There are things you should be doing to prepare for the game’s release. More on that, tomorrow.
